I’ve stayed at the Bilmar and the Treasure Island beach resort multiple times, and I’ve never noticed so much noise before, so if I stayed at the Thunderbird again, I would definitely only consider a gulf facing room. The gulf facing rooms are more expensive, but I think it would be worth it to not be woken up early every morning on vacation. The motorcycles on the street were also extremely loud. I was woken up every morning at 7am by what sounded like garbage trucks, and one morning there were men talking extremely loudly outside our window, starting at 7am. I think I would have much preferred the room facing the gulf, because our room faced gulf blvd and the noise from the street was extremely loud. I originally booked a room with a gulf view, and they called a few days before to let me know it wasn’t available because the air conditioning wasn’t working, so I was moved to a room without a view. They don’t have housekeeping, which would be a problem if we were here longer than 3 nights, but they do keep the laundry room open (it was right downstairs) and you can grab towels and toilet paper easily. Everything seemed pretty clean, although the bathtub has seen better days. The room had cute, beachy decor and the beds were comfy. We stayed in a one bedroom suite, 2nd floor poolside. There weren’t a lot of kids…this place seems to have a slightly more drunken party vibe and probably wouldn’t be my first choice for a family trip. We didn’t use either of the pools, but they looked ok. The tiki beach bar by the main pool is great for frozen drinks. There’s a great coffee place right next to Middlegrounds Grill (I can’t recall the name) and Tootsies Sugar Shop also has great coffee and donuts. This hotel is in a good location, restaurants and bars within walking distance, and right on the beach.
